Throughout my life, key people have pushed me to think bigger and pursue bigger dreams. Their encouragement has shaped the path to where I am today.
The synchronicities in my life have always come through someone who did something for me or took me under their wing. It started with my dad, who saw my entrepreneurial spirit. When I was 15, he and I traveled to Jamaica because I was a fan of Bob Marley and wanted to learn about Rastafari. Once in Jamaica, I connected with local musicians and artisans; I wanted to import their work to the U.S., and my dad encouraged me.
At 17, I graduated early from high school, enrolled in college, and lived in my car for a summer while I surfed and waited for college to begin. One morning, a man knocked on my car door. “What are you doing?” This is not safe.” He got me in touch with a real estate agent and even found me a job as a lifeguard. That job allowed me to pay rent and start my music store, where everything was imported directly from Jamaica. I ran the business for 2 years and eventually dropped out of college to work in Florida. My initial years in Florida were rough—I couldn’t find a job, lost my wallet, and lost my savings. I soon realized I needed to go back to college and finish my education.

While completing my associate degree in Education, I got pregnant with my son, Dillion. Nevertheless, I went on to study cultural anthropology and sociology while working part-time jobs and raising him. I later landed a job working for the county as an assistant, but I knew I could do more than take notes. My boss confirmed it when she told me, “You’re not thinking big enough. Find another job.”
I left my ex-partner, moved to Washington, D.C., and pursued a master’s in International Development. I later worked as an assistant for the American Association of University Women, helping run a grant program that brought foreign women to study in the U.S. From there, I joined the Economic Development Administration, an arm of the Commerce Department, overseeing economic development in the U.S. Dillion and I even met Presidents Clinton and Bush.

But I wanted more! I became a diplomat and eventually an intelligence officer. For 15 years, Dillion and I lived abroad, specifically in South America, the Caribbean, and the Middle East. He attended fantastic international schools and became fluent in Spanish. Meanwhile, I learned the power of collaboration—the art of building strong partnerships through win-win negotiations.
Living abroad heightened my appreciation for the U.S. and marked the beginning of my real estate career. While overseas, I read investment books and made my first real estate investments in the United States, learning through trial and error. By the time Dillion went to grad school, I was ready to retire from government and return to my roots—entrepreneurship.
While the intentions was to grow a business consultancy in Istanbul, helping Turkish businesses write plans for international expansion, an attempted coup in 2015 made it impossible for me to stay. I landed in Orlando, bought a house, and—with all due respect to my REALTOR®—I knew I could do a better job. I had already gained real estate knowledge through my investments, so in 2018, I got my real estate license. I started as an assistant to my broker/mentor and sold 22 houses in my first year. My mentor encouraged me to go out on my own and think bigger.

Now, I have my own brokerage, and I feel like I’m just getting started. My long-term goal is to use my real estate expertise to stop human trafficking—whether by preventing it or helping survivors reintegrate into society. I’m taking steps to better our community, a dream fueled by my entrepreneurial spirit and the incredible people who have encouraged me to dream big.
